Ed Young
"The Importance of Being Ed"

Ed began playing drums with the Newman Navy League and later with the Bawating concert band. But it didn't stop there. Following the death of John Bonham, he received instruction on snare drum; drum set, tympani, latin, orchestral, and mallet percussion at the University of Western Ontario. With a 7th degree black belt in drumming, and a licence to rock, Ed headed west to the frontier (Vancouver), like so many explorers had before him.

He worked at Ayotte Custom Drums gaining experience in the manufacturing of drums, hardware and drumsticks. It was at the Ayotte factory that Ed forged his own tools (not unlike the ancient Greek god Hephaestus) and created the "Red Ed Specials" which he uses to this day. Ed played with a number of bands in and around Vancouver, and recorded with several artists including Lisa Martinelli and Nigel Mack. He also wrote and recorded a song titled "Sacred" with Kelly Brock. This song was featured in an episode of the TV series "Dawson's Creek". Note: Ed has never met any of the Dawson's Creek cast much to his bandmates' dismay. It was sometime in the late 90's that Ed heard Sault Ste. Marie was starving musically. Having altered the musical landscape of Vancouver, Ed decided to head home to help fix the Sault. Upon his return, he has played in a number of local rock bands, including Crankshaft where he met then lead singer Chris Belsito. When Chris left Crankshaft to go solo with Turbulence, he bribed Ed to follow him. Ed stayed in Crankshaft, but accepted the bribe and now plays with the Belsito Band as well. A crafty fellow that Ed is.

Ed has been teaching at Thomas Walls School of Music, ensuring that a cult-like following of Mini-Eds will soon be ready to let loose their thunder. Ed insists that he is not creating a drum army, and has no plans to rule the world.
